Lamont: Day fast approaching when SNP will have to apologise for Lockerbie Bomber release

Renewed pressure is being heaped on the SNP after the Lockerbie Bomber was filmed at a rally in support of Libyan dictator Colonel Gadaffi.

John Lamont MSP, Scottish Conservative Justice Spokesperson, said:

"When the SNP released the Lockerbie Bomber they claimed he only had three months to live – but 23 months later the SNP still refuses to share any independent medical evidence to back that up.

"The last thing relatives of the 270 people murdered by the Lockerbie Bomber need to see is the sight of him alive and well and free, almost two years after he was released by the SNP Government. It was a bad decision made badly and one that shames Scotland around the world.

"The Lockerbie Bomber was treated as a hero when he returned to Tripoli and now, two years on, he has returned the adulation by being Gadaffi's chief cheerleader at a rally.

"It paints a chilling picture of the close relationship between Britain' biggest mass murderer and Colonel Gadaffi and demonstrates once again that the decision by Alex Salmond and his Justice Minister to let the Lockerbie Bomber walk free was wrong and an affront to the victims, their relatives and their families. The day is fast approaching when the SNP Government will have to apologise for this terrible decision."
