Labour's latest gaffe - Gray announces music fund in area where Labour Council tried to cut music tuition

Iain Gray and Scottish Labour have gaffed again, by announcing a new musical instrument fund as they today visit an area where the Labour-run Council wanted cut funding for music tuition.

Jackson Carlaw, Scottish Conservative candidate for Eastwood, said:

"Labour's chaotic campaign has been mired with gaffes and this is another one.

"It is complete hypocrisy for Labour to announce this fund in Eastwood when in fact it was the local Labour-led authority who proposed cuts in funding for music tuition in this year's council budget. The Conservative Group on East Renfrewshire Council opposed the cuts and they were subsequently dropped in the face of severe public pressure.

"If Iain Gray and his colleagues are seriously expecting people to believe them, then at the very least he must denounce his colleagues on the Council for trying to cut music tuition – a move that was only eventually defeated thanks to the Scottish Conservatives."

David McLetchie, Scottish Conservative Campaign Manager for the Scottish Parliament election, said:

"Scottish Labour's campaign has been plumbing the depths, mired in gaffes and Iain Gray's total failure to make any impact. Rather than this brazen hypocrisy, Scotland needs common sense policies and a record of delivery, which is what you get with Annabel and the Scottish Conservatives."
