Johnstone: SNP must put political dogma aside to help affordable housing in Scotland
An infrastructure investment fund is offering loans to housing associations in the UK.
Alex Johnstone MSP, Shadow Minister for Housing, said:
"Social housing provides an ethical investment opportunity for pension funds and other commercial investors. The SNP needs to put its simplistic political dogma to one side and do more to engage with the private sector in the United Kingdom in order to help provide funding for the affordable housing that we need.
"The SNP Government has cut the social housing budget and so the least the Housing Minister and his colleagues could do is seek to work with the UK private sector.
"Building more homes will retain important construction skills, save jobs and stimulate the economy, whilst reducing waiting lists. The SNP are failing in their duty and it is ordinary families that are paying the price."
A report in 'Inside Housing' magazine published by the Chartered Institute of Housing states that American firm Equility Capital is offering loans to housing providers in order build more units. Please see link below for further information.
