Johnstone slams 'utterly ludicrous' Scottish Government full-time trade union workers

The Scottish Government have released figures that detail the amount of facility time their employees have taken to perform trade union activities.

They show that over the last two years an equivalent of nine Scottish Government employees have taken 100% facility time.

Alex Johnstone, Scottish Conservative MSP for North East Scotland, said:

"It is utterly ludicrous that so many Scottish Government employees are being allowed to devote all of their time towards working for trade unions. If they are employed by the Scottish Government then that is who they should be doing work for – this is a complete waste of taxpayers' money at a time when we cannot afford any excess spending in the budget.

"If these employees are so valuable to trade unions then it is them that should be footing the bill – not the Scottish taxpayer."
