Investment in Scotland’s road network ‘essential’

Figures released under a Freedom of Information request show that Councils have paid out just over £3 million to motorists in the last five years for damage to cars and injuries caused by potholes.

Speaking at a Transport Hustings Event in Edinburgh, Scottish Conservative Transport Spokesman Jackson Carlaw said:

"The proper maintenance of Scotland's roads is essential, for both economic prosperity and quality of life for local residents.

"Scottish Conservatives want to set up a Road Maintenance Fund which would set aside a total of over £200 million which would include more money to tackle potholes and improve the condition of our shoddy roads.

"This funded solution stands in stark contrast to the years of neglect in road maintenance from successive Labour, Lib Dem and SNP Governments. This is a common sense investment from the Scottish Conservatives which will make a real difference to motorists."
