Has the Scottish Government flagship tourism policy been scrapped or not?

The Chief Executive of VisitScotland has told the Scottish Parliament's Economy, Energy & Tourism Committee that the Scottish Government's target to boost tourism revenues by 50% by 2015 is "not achievable".

Gavin Brown MSP, Scottish Conservative Tourism Spokesperson and Convener of the Committee, said:

"We now need a clear statement from the Scottish Government, detailing the progress it has made so far and whether the targets will now be revised in light of Mr Roughead's comments.

"The announcement that the target is not achievable is completely at odds with what the Scottish Government has been saying up until now. Tourism is a vital part of Scotland's economy – so we need absolute transparency around this issue.

"The Minister has to come clean now and tell us whether the Scottish Government has scrapped the 50% growth target. If it has been scrapped, will it be replaced by a more realistic target? If it has not been scrapped then we need to know how the target will be reached. "
