Daryn Maxwell, who admitted to the murder of Reamonn Gormley has been sentenced to at least 19 years in jail at the High Court in Perth today. Barry Smith was also jailed for culpable homicide. At the time of the murder, Daryn Maxwell was out on bail having carried out another knife attack.
Speaking after the sentencing, Scottish Conservative Justice Spokesperson, David McLetchie MSP said:
"The simple fact of the matter is that Reamonn Gormley would be alive today had Daryn Maxwell not been out on bail. Individuals like Mr. Maxwell who have a violent past should be behind bars and not free to commit what turned out to be a fatal assault.
"This sentence closes the case but it won't bring back Reamonn Gormley and our sympathies are with his family. They are another example of people who have been failed by our criminal justice system."
Ruth: "Our thoughts should now be with the families of the victims who died on that fateful day in December 1988."

Ruth: "However, this should not stop the questions that still exist, including those regarding his release by the SNP Government."
