Today (Sunday 7th November 2010), Annabel Goldie MSP, Scottish Conservative Leader, addressed the rally at Lossiemouth in Moray.
She said:
"Can I thank you all for inviting me to be with you today. And can I also thank you all and the Moray Task Force for everything that you are doing.
"I am proud to be standing here today, shoulder to shoulder with all of you, with the other political leaders, business leaders, civic leaders and especially the people of Moray.
"I wish the circumstances were different - but we must stand here determined to fight, and fight and fight.
"This turnout is deeply moving. There is a sense of purpose that is visible - that is tangible - a sense of purpose reflected across Scotland.
"Moray has a proud history at the forefront of Britain's defences.
"So many people have served our UK armed forces and the bases at Kinloss and at Lossiemouth have been vital parts of Britain's defence capabilities.
"The decision over Kinloss was disappointing. But no decision has yet been made over Lossiemouth and that is why we are here.
"Our task is to make the case for Moray and to make the case for Scotland.
"I have made sure your case has gone direct to the Prime Minister and to Liam Fox.
"I am proud to have worked with the other party leaders on a joint submission to the Defence Review - but our job is not yet done.
"It is my job - my political duty - to speak up for Moray and for Scotland.
"I believe we have a case, a strong case.
"The submission we have made is compelling and our best chance of success will come if we all stand together, fight together and make the case for Moray.
"So we must campaign to keep the fighter fleet at Lossie. We must all fight to find other uses for Kinloss - why can't soldiers returning from Germany be based there?
"Today, I have the privilege of briefly speaking to you.
"But far more importantly, today is a day when I am here to listen. And I see the people of Moray speaking with one voice to air their concerns and fears - to put forward ideas and hopes for the future.
"I know the taskforce is meeting with Liam Fox in London - and I promise you that in the coming days I too will make sure your voice is heard at the highest level in the land.
"The voice of Moray will be heard - that pledge I give you today.
"Thank you."
