Goldie: Salmond’s legal rant backfires spectacularly - SNP are enthusiastic backers of ECHR

Alex Salmond's rant at two Scottish legal figures has backfired – it fails to address the key issues as well as the SNP's enthusiastic support for ECHR and its incorporation into Scots Law.

Annabel Goldie MSP, Scottish Conservative Leader, said:

"It is becoming increasingly clear that Alex Salmond's rant has backfired spectacularly. Judges apply the law and lawyers advise on the law – that is their professional obligation.

"Alex Salmond has ignored the key issues and chosen to be subsumed by rhetorical bile. He has also ignored that the SNP are enthusiastic advocates of ECHR and its incorporation into Scots Law.

"This 'little Scotlander' mentality is introspective, restrictive and wrong and Alex Salmond does a disservice to the real underlying issue of how ECHR appeals in Scotland should be heard.

"Alex Salmond and the SNP will be regretting wading into this territory, so perhaps the best thing for him would be to admit he has attacked the wrong institution and the wrong people."
