Future of public services – SNP must stop living in fantasy land and face up to the challenges ahead

The Chief Executive of CoSLA has said that the rising demand for public services is "killing" Scotland and called for a debate on the future of public service provision.

David McLetchie MSP, Scottish Conservative Chief Whip, said:

"These comments underline what we said in the election, namely that the SNP is running away from difficult decisions and instead playing to the gallery. Our Councils are going to be the fall guys for the SNP Government's failure to get real. No wonder they are complaining now.

"There are tough times ahead and it is clear we need to have a real debate about the future of public services in our country. It's why we have been prepared to make tough choices in opposing free prescriptions for those who can afford to pay and calling for graduates earning a certain salary to contribute to the cost of their higher education.

"So, whilst it might not be popular in the short term, we desperately need the SNP Government to stop living in fantasy land, take a brave pill and face up to the challenges ahead."
