Fraser: We must cut red tape to let small business flourish

Research by Clydesdale Bank has shown that small businesses in Scotland are struggling to cope with complicated business regulation.

Murdo Fraser MSP, Scottish Conservative Deputy Leader, said:

"There is no doubt that in order to boost our economy we have to help small business flourish. We must create an environment that allows them to grow, not one that burdens them with red tape.

"Scottish Conservatives are committed to cutting the red tape that inhibits the growth of all businesses and small businesses in particular. We want the Regulatory Review Group to review red tape and make regulation better focussed and less burdensome on businesses, voluntary groups and the public sector. Any voluntary, private or public sector organisation should be able to refer regulations which are unduly burdensome to the Regulatory Review Group.

"There are difficult times ahead, and rather than spend the next few years obsessing over a separation referendum as the SNP wants us to do, we must do all we can to grow Scotland's economy. Helping our small businesses is an integral part of that aim."
