The Chairman of BMA Scotland has used his address at the BMA Annual Conference in Cardiff to warn the SNP Government that its high spend agenda in the NHS could jeopardise frontline services.
Murdo Fraser MSP, Scottish Conservative Health Spokesperson, said:
"The SNP would be wise to listen to Dr Keighley.
"Scottish Conservatives were the first party in Scotland to back the protection of the health budget, as we know how vital our frontline services are for hundreds of thousands of Scots across the country. The SNP subsequently adopted the same policy but here the similarities end.
"Whereas we want to reduce management costs and redirect funds to those in the frontline of patient care, the SNP has been wasting money on gimmicks like free prescriptions for those who can already afford to pay. These measures might generate short term popularity but they do nothing to help the long term sustainability of our NHS, especially when you consider that 90% of prescriptions were already free to begin with.
"These are tough times and the SNP now has no excuses for failing to deliver. We need more honesty from them if we are to give our NHS all the support it deserves."
Ruth: "Our thoughts should now be with the families of the victims who died on that fateful day in December 1988."

Ruth: "However, this should not stop the questions that still exist, including those regarding his release by the SNP Government."
