Fraser: Doctors need best possible training to uphold high standards of our NHS

Following its recent warning that Scotland is in danger of producing a generation of inadequately trained doctors and compromising patient safety, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) has published a new Charter for Medical Training.

Murdo Fraser MSP, Scottish Conservative Health Spokesperson, said:

"It goes without saying that our doctors need to have the best training possible, in order to uphold the high standards of our NHS. Scottish Conservatives are committed to protecting the NHS budget and want to cut management costs by up to 30% so we can free up more resources for our frontline staff.

"However, these frontline staff must be well-trained and equipped to handle all the challenges thrown at them. When respected institutions like the RCPE are voicing their concern then it is time to listen, and for these reasons we welcome this Charter for Medical Training."
