The Leader and Deputy Leader of Edinburgh Council, Jenny Dawe and Steve Cardownie, have attacked the conclusions of the Public Audit Committee report into the gathering after it labelled their behaviour 'unacceptable'.
Deputy Leader of the Scottish Conservatives, Murdo Fraser MSP, said:
"The Leader and Deputy Leader of the City of Edinburgh Council appear to be in denial about the seriousness of the concerns about their behaviour raised by the Public Audit Committee.
"The Committee has a right to expect that witnesses before it respond truthfully to questions put to them - something that was not done in this case. It is a disgraceful slur on the work of the Public Audit Committee for Councillors Dawe and Cardownie to accuse it of acting in a party political manner.
"In any event, the accusation is laughable, given that the Committee is made up of three SNP members, one Liberal Democrat, one Conservative and three Labour; and the report including the criticisms of Councillors Dawe and Cardownie was agreed unanimously and without dissent."
Murdo Fraser is Deputy Convenor of the Public Audit Committee but is making these remarks as a Scottish Conservative MSP.
