Ed Miliband’s Scottish disaster is morale-shattering blow for Labour

Ed Miliband's poll ratings are worse in Scotland than across the rest of the United Kingdom.

The only area where he polls better in Scotland than the rest of the UK is on whether he has a credible plan to sort out the economy – where his ratings are minus 30 in Scotland, compared to minus 36 across the rest of the country.

Murdo Fraser MSP, Scottish Conservative Deputy Leader, said:

"Labour have always taken Scotland for granted but their disastrous result last month shows that times are changing.

"It is clear Scots have no confidence in Ed Miliband. They do not think he is doing well, they do not think Labour made the right decision in allowing the unions to elect him, they do not think he has a credible plan for sorting out the economy and they are not clear what he stands for. This is a morale-shattering blow for Labour across the United Kingdom and especially in Scotland.

"They have been comprehensively beaten in elections in England and in Scotland. It is clear that with Labour in chaos and disarray, it is up to the Scottish Conservatives to provide responsible opposition to keep the SNP Government in check. We will back them when they do the right thing for Scotland and vigorously oppose them when Alex Salmond's grandstanding gets out of hand.

"The most pressing issue is for the SNP to have the courage to call their referendum now to avoid the years of uncertainty which will inevitably damage our economy."

The Scottish breakdown of this weekend's YouGov poll shows that 31% think he is doing well as Labour Leader, compared to 53% who think he is doing badly. UK figures 32/51

17% of Scots think Labour made the right decision electing Ed Miliband as Leader, compared to 51% who think they did not. UK figures 19/51

18% of Scots are clear about what Ed Miliband stands for, whereas 75% are not. UK figures 21/70

16% of Scots think Ed Miliband has a credible plan for sorting out Britain's economy, whereas 46% do not. UK figures 16/52
