Dualling of A9 cannot wait

The Scottish Government's Infrastructure and Investment Plan has set out a timetable for delivery in the dualling of the A9. It states that the A9 will see a 'phased programme of schemes from 2017 onwards'.

In terms of 'finance and delivery' for the scheme, the document states "Specific additional delivery models will be developed."

Commenting on the plans Mid-Scotland & Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser said:

"After all the hype and talk from SNP officials leading up to this announcement, it is disappointing that there is a severe lack of detail in the SNP Government's vision to dual the A9. It is even more disappointing that it seems that we will not see a spade hit the earth to start the planned upgrades until 2017.

"It is a fact that this road has been claiming too many lives, causing too many accidents and holding back our economy. We cannot wait until 2017 to start the full dualling of the A9. Every year that passes we will sadly witness more and more fatal accidents on this road and more and more families' will have their lives shattered."

Details of the A9 dualling can be found on page 117 of the plan which can be accessed here: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2011/12/05141922/0

Murdo Fraser held a debate calling for the A9 to be dualled, and also set up the 'Dual the A9' campaign website which has just under 12,000 signatures.

The Dual the A9 website can be found at www.dualtheA9.com
