Scottish Conservatives will be selecting local resident and local councillor David Wilson as their candidate for the forthcoming Inverclyde by-election for Westminster.
Cllr Wilson will be formally adopted at a meeting of local members on Thursday 9th June 2011.
Cllr David Wilson said:
"I am delighted and privileged to be selected as the Scottish Conservative candidate for Inverclyde. As a Councillor for Kilmacolm and Port Glasgow I have been a strong voice for my constituents, and I will continue to stand up for local people if they give me the honour of representing them at Westminster."
Annabel Goldie MSP, Scottish Conservative Leader, said:
"As a West of Scotland MSP I have worked closely with David as a councillor. He is a tireless and effective worker for people in Inverclyde and I know he would work equally as hard for them as their MP."
David Wilson is Depute Provost of Inverclyde and has served the whole of Inverclyde in his roles as Chair of The Planning, Licensing and Green Charter committees. He has represented the council on 18 outside bodies including Inverclyde Leisure, Riverside Inverclyde, SPT, BAA, Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park (vice chair), Kilmacolm New Commuity Centre and, as chair of Sail Inverclyde, the company bringing the Tall Ships to Greenock in July.
