New leader of the Scottish Conservatives, Ruth Davidson, today announced that she has appointed Under-Secretary of State for Scotland, David Mundell MP, as interim Party Chairman.
She also announced that John Lamont MSP will be directing the party's local government election campaign, along with Councillor Graham Simpson.
Speaking this morning in Edinburgh, Ruth Davidson said:
"I have said throughout this campaign that we need to bring members of every level of our party together and work in closer step. To that end I have appointed David Mundell as interim Scottish Chairman – an appointment approved by the Prime Minister last night.
"David has served the party both at Holyrood and now at Westminster and will be invaluable in helping me reshape the party structure and turn us into a modern, effective election fighting machine.
"I have also said throughout the leadership campaign that getting Councillors in across the country, so people see Conservatives working for them in their communities, must be a priority for our recovery. I am delighted to announce that John Lamont MSP and Councillor Graeme Simpson have agreed to co-direct that campaign, working in concert to build our success at local level."
