Most of Scotland's City Councils are planning to hand out parking fines on the 27th and 28th of December despite them being public holidays.
Shadow Minister for Transport, Jackson Carlaw MSP, said:
"Councils seeking to 'sting' motorists over the holiday season should be ashamed of themselves. They exist to serve the people and not the other way round.
"After as severe a winter as any can remember, retailers on our high streets need every possible boost to business. Many who were depending on a bumper Christmas are concerned for the future as are their employees.
"Councils should be encouraging shoppers over the holiday period not penalising them."
Motorists in Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and Perth will all be faced with fines on Monday the 27th, with no local authorities offering free parking on Tuesday the 28th.
