Council tax statistics show need for reform

A report from the Taxpayers' Alliance has revealed that the equivalent of £1 in every £5 of Council Tax raised in the UK is spent on Council pensions.

Scottish Conservative Finance Spokesman, Gavin Brown MSP said:

"Many people will be very surprised upon hearing this statistic. It demonstrates that more than ever we need a sensible and sustainable approach on pension schemes.

"That is why the UK Government took on board the findings of the Hutton Report in making their recommendations to reform public sector pensions. In recent years the burden has fallen disproportionately on the taxpayer and it is vital that we restore the balance in order to create more certain pensions for all public sector workers."
