Council Tax freeze costings: Other parties are indulging in fantasy economics

Labour has blundered in the costings for their Council Tax policy.

The SNP cannot tell us how they would fund their projected five year Council Tax freeze.

Only the Scottish Conservatives are credible and can be trusted on tax.

Derek Brownlee, Scottish Conservative Finance Spokesperson, said:

"We said at the time when Labour panicked and cobbled together a new Council Tax policy that it had been written on the back of an envelope. This blunder is further proof that, like so many of their lavish promises, it just hasn't been costed.

"Likewise, the SNP has promised a 5 year Council Tax freeze without demonstrating how they would pay for it. Both parties are indulging in fantasy economics.

"By contrast, all Scottish Conservative proposals – including a Council Tax freeze until at least 2013 – are fully costed as part of our comprehensive spending plans for the next four years.

"It is proof that the other parties offer nothing but pie in the sky – only the Scottish Conservatives are credible and only the Scottish Conservatives can be trusted on tax."
