Common Sense on Tax

Speaking as she launched our Common Sense on Tax manifesto in Inverness this morning, Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservative Leader, said:

"We live in tough economic times. Labour's catastrophic debt legacy poses real challenges for Scotland.

"At Holyrood, what we need now, more than ever, is a political party with a proven common sense record of delivery over the last four years.

"What we need now, more than ever, are credible and costed plans for the next four years.

"What we need now, more than ever, are real ideas and policies to grow Scotland's economy.

"As this document demonstrates, only the Scottish Conservatives are credible on tax.

"Only the Scottish Conservatives aspire to a dynamic, entrepreneurial, low tax Scotland.

"Only the Scottish Conservatives can deliver."

2) During the recent Scottish Budget, both Labour and the Lib Dems voted against a Council Tax freeze.

The SNP and the Lib Dems both want a local income tax – and as we now know from the papers which Alex Salmond tried to keep secret, that new tax would punish hard working Scots the length and breadth of the land and force up a typical bill by hundreds of pound a year.

Labour and the Lib Dems refused to back the help to small businesses secured by the Scottish Conservatives and which helped thousands survive Labour's recession.
