Common Sense on Council Tax

On Saturday 26th March, across Scotland in every region, Scottish Conservative candidates and activists are out delivering our message of Common Sense on Council Tax.

Tens of thousands of leaflets will be delivered, telling voters of our plans to:

- Continue the Council Tax freeze

- Give pensioner households a £200 a year cut in their bills

Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservative Leader, who will be out leading the campaign, said:

"These are tough times, but political parties need to do whatever can reasonably be done to ease the burden on taxpayers.

"I am proud that Scottish Conservative votes in the last 4 years have delivered a 4 year freeze in the Council Tax. Without the Scottish Conservatives, that freeze would not have happened.

"But we want to go further, and that is the message we are taking to the voters today.

"The SNP want a local income tax to drive up costs on families; Labour and the Lib Dems voted against a freeze this year.

"Only the Scottish Conservative are talking common sense on Council Tax.

"Our plans mean at least 2 more years of a freeze. We would also give local people a local veto on any future inflation busting plans by any Council. And we would cut the bills of pensioner households by £200 every year.

"We have delivered for Scotland in the past four years and will again in the next four years".
