The Christie Commission has today published its final report.
Gavin Brown MSP, Scottish Conservative Economy Spokesperson, said:
"Obviously Scottish Conservatives wish to consider the report fully before commenting in greater detail. We note the Commission were critical of the fact that, despite massive financial increases since devolution, most key measures of social and economic inequality have remained unchanged.
"We are supportive of the stress the report places on a more preventative approach, and we have long argued for greater use of private and third sector providers in the actual delivery of public services. In addition, we agree that a tighter financial oversight is desirable and also feel that the discussions around universal benefits have to be far more transparent.
"All in all, the Commission has some positive suggestions that ought to be taken forward. The SNP Government must now start showing leadership instead of simply doing what is popular in the short term."
