Carlaw: Imperative that we provide safest roads possible

North Lanarkshire Council has warned that it could be forced to stop gritting roads because of regular attacks carried out on its gritters during previous winters.

Scottish Conservative Transport Spokesman, Jackson Carlaw MSP said:

"Last winter people's lives literally depended on the speed at which the roads in their local area were gritted. It is absolutely imperative that we provide the safest roads possible for Scottish drivers and that some roads are being left untreated because of the actions of a few thugs is totally unacceptable.

"Communities across Scotland will be depending on their roads to be cleared this winter and anyone stupid enough to attack gritters will not only face the consternation of their community but the full force of the law as well."
