Budget threats: Salmond should stop the bluster and work constructively for Scotland

Alex Salmond has (yet again) threatened to resign and force an early election if the Scottish Government's budget is not passed.

Derek Brownlee MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth, said:

"There is nothing original in this – in fact it would be news if Alex Salmond didn't threaten to resign at this time of the year.

"The SNP's threat is not viable anyway. An early election can only be forced if two thirds of the Scottish Parliament chamber agrees. Only Labour and the SNP together can force an early election.

"Rather than indulge in the same old political games, Alex Salmond needs to get on and act constructively, as we are doing to make the budget better and deliver for Scotland. No one is impressed with his bluster, especially as we have seen it all before."
