Brownlee: MSP pay freeze is setting example, time for Scottish Government to follow suit

The Presiding Officer has today written to the Finance Committee, setting out details of a pay freeze for MSPs over the next two financial years.

Derek Brownlee MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth, said:

"This is very welcome news, as Scottish Conservatives have been calling for a pay freeze in the public sector since January. This pay freeze should not affect the very lowest paid but it is only right that MSPs are included, together with others in the public sector earning over £21,000 a year.

"A public sector pay freeze would protect jobs and help secure the recovery. The Scottish Parliament has set a good example here and it is up to the Scottish Government to follow suit in next week's budget."
