Unemployment figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown that unemployment in Scotland rose by 7,000 over the past quarter, putting the total number of jobless in Scotland at 212,000.
Scottish Conservative Finance Spokesman, Gavin Brown MSP said:
"These are disappointing figures and the Scottish Government must now do all that they can to help the economy. Their draft budget was lacking on economic and business issues and they must now make amendments to it that will put the economy front and centre.
"It is plain to see that we must create more jobs in the private sector and Scottish Conservative ideas such as the Business Start-Up Fund would achieve this through supporting the access individuals have to enterprise education and providing loans to assist in the creation of new businesses.
"This is addition to cuts in business rates and providing incentives for exceeding business start-up targets through a Business Dividend Fund, would go a long way to getting the economy moving in a positive direction once again."
