Today the drop-off charge at Edinburgh airport comes into effect.
Gavin Brown, Scottish Conservative MSP for Lothians, who has led the campaign against the charge, said:
"This is a crass, insensitive and money grabbing move. It is bitterly disappointing that, despite the unanimous opposition to the drop-off charge, Edinburgh Airport have gone ahead with its introduction.
"People from all over Scotland are strongly opposed to it. The airport has ignored its own passengers, and residents, businesses and politicians from across the entire political spectrum. Over 9,000 people have already supported my petition against the ‘the drop-off rip off'. Today, I have already received a number of complaints from constituents over the lack of notice of exactly when it was being introduced.
"There is every chance that this charge is the thin end of the wedge as there is nothing to stop BAA increasing the drop-off charge in the future. Indeed, they have already refused to rule out an increase.
"I urge people to sign and support my petition as I continue the fight the drop-off rip off."
Around 9,000 people have supporting Gavin Brown's petition against the charge, including nearly 6,000 at the online petition he launched: http://www.dropoffripoff.com/
