Big Freeze: Where is the Scottish Government’s promised resilience report?

Alex Salmond and the SNP do not have a clue what has happened to the promised review 'of the resilience of Scottish transport', which was supposed to be published in Autumn 2010.

Speaking after FMQs today, Annabel Goldie MSP, Scottish Conservative Leader, said:

"On the Scottish Government's website, there is a report entitled 'Scottish Road Network' on the events of last winter. It was published back in August, and it tells us that there was to be a 'wider review of the resilience of Scottish transport which will be published in the autumn'.

"I asked the First Minister where this report was and he could not answer. He didn't even try.

"Yesterday, the Scottish Government spent the day pretending there had been no severe weather warnings issued on Sunday night but last night we caught them red-handed. They also spent yesterday claiming the actual fresh snow fall was twice or three times the prediction.

"The MET Office warned of up to 10cm of fresh snow across the central belt. We have spoken to them overnight and they have confirmed that the actual fresh snow-fall on Monday was between 5 and 10cm across the central belt.

"Scotland is losing patience and confidence in the Transport Minister, whose conduct has been complacent, negligent and belligerent. The First Minister needs to take a long, hard look at his Government and see it as most of Scotland sees it – found wanting."

1) The report published in August says that the Scottish Government "will develop a communications strategy to manage public expectations pro-actively".

2) On the Scottish Government website, under the banner "ready winter", it tells the nation: "even the worst effects of winter can be reduced by a few simple steps, such as being more aware of the weather forecasts, especially weather warnings."
