Satellite TV in Scotland’s jails: Prison should not be a holiday camp

Newspaper reports state that half of Scotland's prisoners are now able to watch satellite TV, after £70,000 was spent on new television units.

John Lamont MSP, Shadow Minister for Community Safety, says:

"This is yet another example of the SNP soft-touch approach to crime. Many hard-working, law-abiding people cannot afford satellite TV and for their taxes to be going on comforts for criminals is a disgrace.

"The tens of thousands of pounds being spent on new televisions and subscription TV would be better spent on reducing reoffending. Prison should be a place of rehabilitation and punishment.

"Under this SNP Government it is rapidly becoming a holiday camp. It is time the SNP Government put the victims of crime first, not the criminals."
