Leading restaurateur and entrepreneur Satty Singh has today announced he is supporting the Conservative Party.
Satty was named Entrepreneur of the Year at 2006 Asian Business Awards and is a well-known figure in Scottish business with extensive charitable and sporting connections.
Satty Singh says:
"As a businessman in Scotland I have always made a point of maintaining a public position of political neutrality. Alongside the footballers, newspaper editors and other celebrities, many politicians also dine in my restaurant in Glasgow, and some are my friends. However I am now so concerned about the state of the UK that I can't maintain my neutral position any longer. As a responsible citizen I feel it is my duty to speak out.
"I feel it is important that there are Conservative MPs from Scotland. If the Conservatives win the election it is crucial we have Conservative MPs from Scotland at the heart of Government representing our interests.
"There are seats all over Scotland where I believe the Conservatives can win - East Renfrewshire is one but the Conservatives just need people to realise that if they vote Conservative then they will get a Conservative MP. If we want David Cameron to be the next Prime Minister then we need to start voting Conservative. There is no such thing as a wasted vote. That is why I am nailing my colours to the mast today.
"The Conservatives are the only party who seem to understand the scale of the problems facing Scotland and Britain.
"For me, the reasons for openly supporting the Conservatives are very simple. They are the only party ready to deal with the problems that face the United Kingdom today. They have ideas, policies, and a belief in the individual which is relevant to the challenges that the country faces. They are the party of the future. They are the party who are prepared to fight for personal freedom because they believe in people.
"These are the reasons I am proud to publicly declare my support for the Conservatives.
"The people of Britain are looking for strong leadership and a united party and in my opinion only David Cameron and the Conservative Party can give us that."
Andrew Fulton, Scottish Conservative Party Chairman, says:
"Satty is another welcome recruit to the Conservative cause. He is one of many people the length and breadth of the country who are saying it's time for a change. Satty wants to be part of that change and he is absolutely right to say that the Conservatives can win in seats all over Scotland.
"He knows, like many other voters, that only David Cameron's Conservatives can replace this weak and divided Labour Government. Satty brings to the Party a wealth of business and charity experience and I look forward to having him on board as we take our Party - and the country - forward."
