POLL PROVES SCOTTISH CONSERVATIVES ARE VOICE OF SCOTTISH BUSINESSES

09/04/2007

Conservative Candidate for North Tayside Murdo Fraser has welcomed a new poll by Scottish Business Insider (of the top 500 businesses in Scotland) which put the Scottish Conservatives as the party most businesses wished would win the Holyrood elections.

The poll of the top 500 businesses in Scotland by Scottish Business Insider Magazine revealed that 39% of respondents wanted the Scottish Conservatives to win the Scottish Parliament elections. Labour and the SNP polled 13% each, whereas the Liberal Democrats received 8%.

Commenting, Murdo said:

“I have had the opportunity to visit hundreds of local businesses throughout Perthshire and Angus and it is clear from my conversations with them that more should be done to support local entrepreneurs.   I am glad that business people side with my policies and believe that the Scottish Conservatives are the party with the best policies to help the Scottish economy.  I want to see incentives and encouragement for our local business community and I will continue to campaign for a better deal for business.

“Despite all the hype with which the SNP is surrounding itself, the poll shows that there is little support for them, and even less for independence. It is also a huge slap in the fact for the Lib Dem Enterprise Minister, Nicol Stephen, who has provided absolutely no leadership for the business community – hence why his party lags behind in fourth place.

“Our policies – to slash the business rates burden for small businesses, to cut red tape, to provide a Town Centre Regeneration Fund to rejuvenate our small towns, to create a new Skills Agency and to improve public sector procurement are clearly winning the business vote, and improving road infrastructure such as dualling the A9 are clearly winning the business vote."
