CONSERVATIVES VISIT COMPASS CHRISTIAN CENTRE

19/04/2007

Scottish Conservative Candidate for North Tayside Murdo Fraser and Conservative Council Candidate for Blairgowrie and the Glens Caroline Shiers visited the Compass Christian Centre in Glenshee this Friday (20 April) to meet staff and tour the centre.

The Compass Christian Centre is an outdoor centre in Scotland that welcomes schools, youth groups, charities and organisations such as Prince's Trust Volunteers to the centre and use their sporting facilities. Sporting facilities on offer at the centre include canoeing, kayaking, skiing, archery and climbing, with a new climbing wall recently opened at the centre last month.

Murdo said:

“The Compass Christian Centre at Glenshee Lodge is an excellent centre and is well used by schools, youth groups and charities throughout Scotland. The centre attracts many groups to our local area in order to use the facilities on offer and this is a welcome boost to the local economy.

“The centre offers a massive range of outdoor activities for young people such as canoeing, kayaking, archery, skiing, orienteering and gorge walks. Many of these activities allow our young people to learn about our outside environment and teach them valuable skills. I welcome the work that the centre does for our young people and I want to learn more about some of the issues that young people raise with staff at the centre."

Caroline said:

“The Compass Christian Centre is a valuable resource to the local area. The centre has been in Glenshee for 40 years and has served our local community and many groups throughout Scotland extremely well over the years.

"I have been involved with a number of voluntary groups, locally and nationally, who use Compass and have seen first hand the work they do. Being able to enjoy new outdoor activities at a centre such as Compass can make an enormous difference to the lives of young people from urban areas who would otherwise not have access to the challenges and team building activities on offer."
