CONSERVATIVES TO LAUNCH NORTH TAYSIDE CAMPAIGN

07/04/2007

Scottish Conservative Candidate for North Tayside Murdo Fraser was joined by Conservative Council Candidates Dennis Melloy (Strathmore), Caroline Shiers (Blairgowrie and the Glens), Barbara Vaughan (Strathtay) and Ian Campbell (Highland Perthshire) in Alyth on Saturday 7 April to launch the Scottish Conservatives North Tayside Campaign.

Murdo Fraser said:

“There can be no doubt that the Conservatives are on the up in North Tayside.  In the General Election less than two years ago, we had a swing of 4% from the SNP to the Conservatives in the North Perthshire seat.  This seat is a two-horse race between the Conservatives and the SNP and we are well on the way to winning.  We are the only party that can stop the SNP winning here.

“We are fighting this campaign with a relentless focus on ‘bread and butter’ issues, not navel-gazing about the constitution.  People want more police on the beat - that’s why we’ll recruit an extra 1,500 straight away.  People want council tax reductions for pensioners - that’s why we’ll give older pensioners an immediate and automatic 50% discount.  And people don’t want road tolls, which is why so many signed out petition at www.scotlandsaysnototolls.com.

“If you want an endless, tiresome debate about the constitution then listen to Labour and the SNP.  Scottish Conservatives are focusing on the bread butter issues, saying to people ‘We Are Your Voice in Parliament’.

“Scotland needs a change of Government, and we need a change from the failed SNP/Liberal Democrat Administration on Perth & Kinross Council.  The Scottish Conservatives are fighting for every vote in this Election for a new approach to tackling our problems locally and nationally.”
