Moray Conservatives

The seventeen Scottish Conservative MSPs elected to the Scottish Parliament May 2007

On the third of May 2007 the Scottish Conservative team in Moray got stronger.  Our candidate for the Scottish Parliamentary seat increased the share of the vote again and was re-elected to the Scottish Parliament for the third time as an MSP for the Highlands and Islands.

Councillor Iain Young, the only Conservative on Moray Council from 1999 to 2007 was joined by Councillor Allan Wright and Councillor Douglas Ross.  Following talks with the Independent group the three Conservative Councillors joined them in entering a coalition to run the Moray Council, you can read more about this on the Council page of this website.

The Conservative party in the Scottish Parliament number 17 but Alex Ferguson MSP became Presiding Officer of the Parliament and gave up his party affiliation.  The remaining 16 MSPs will provide a strong opposition to the SNP minority government but will embrace the new era of minority rule by voting with the SNP on an issue-by-issue basis where the two parties share common ground.

Mary was chosen by party leader, Annabel Goldie MSP, to be the Conservatives Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing and will work with her two deputies, Jackson Carlaw MSP and Jamie McGrigor MSP, scrutinising the SNPs health policies.  Mary is also the party's member on the Health and Sport Committee in the Parliament.
