LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS 2007
Following the election on the 3rd of May three Scottish Conservative Councillors were elected to the Moray Council. At their first group meeting Councillor Iain Young was chosen as group leader.
As with many local authorities across Scotland no one party or group had an overall majority within the council chamber and the Independent group with 12 of the 26 seats began talks with the 3 Scottish Conservative Councillors.
After considerable thought it was agreed by the three Councillors to enter into a coalition deal with the Independents to provide a stable administration for Moray. The view amongst the Councillors was that we could get more done during this term being part of the administration rather than being an opposition group.
At the first meeting of the Moray Council on 9th May 2007 the Independent/Conservative administration was formed and Councillor Allan Wright was elected Joint Chair (Planning) of the Environment Services. Councillor Douglas Ross was elected as chairman of the CCTV sub committee and a member of the Joint Police Board.
