John Lamont, Scottish Conservative Candidate for Newcastleton, is pleased to report that NHS Borders is considering setting up a new dental facility within the Newcastleton Health Centre. This follows discussions between John Lamont and Ralph Roberts, the Director of Integrated Health Services at NHS Borders.
John said "Since the retirement of the previous dentist, Newcastleton and the surrounding areas have not had adequate dental facilities. Indeed, I am aware of many local residents having to travel hundreds of miles to get treatment and to have check-ups. This is clearly far from satisfactory."
"Following discussions with NHS Borders, a General Dental Practitioner has expressed an interest in providing part of their practice within Newcastleton. I understand that discussions are ongoing with this dentist. However, I am pleased that NHS Borders is making every effort to resolve this problem. Residents can be assured that I will let them know as soon as I hear that a decision has been reached."
John added "Across Scotland, patients are going without dental treatment because the Lib-Dem/Labour Executive are failing to invest in our dental service. This has got to change. To this end, I have launched an online petition calling for the Scottish Executive to take immediate action to resolve this growing disaster. To support the petition, please log on to www.petitiononline.com/dentists/petition.html."
