Job Title: Broadcasting Officer

Location: Edinburgh

Closing Date: 1700 Tuesday 1st September 2020

Key Purpose: The Broadcasting Officer will be responsible for the day to day delivery of the Scottish Conservative’s policies and campaigns within the broadcast media.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Day to day discussions with Scottish broadcast media maintaining relationships with broadcast outlets
  • Arranging broadcast and media interviews for Scottish Conservative elected representatives and others to actively promote Scottish Conservative policies
  • Delivering the Scottish Conservative communications strategy through broadcast
  • Monitoring key broadcast programmes in Scotland
  • Organising relevant briefings for Scottish Conservatives for broadcast appearances as required
  • Writing press releases and other copy including articles and briefs as required
  • Liaising closely with colleagues on digital output to ensure consistent messaging
  • Working with the wider media team to build strong broadcast packages as part of the overall communications strategy
  • Undertake further media office duties as required, including being part of the weekend rota

Person Specification

Experience:

  • Broadcasting experience
  • Experience of delivering a media strategy
  • Experience as a Press Officer or journalist
  • Experience of briefing politicians and journalists
  • Experience of writing press releases

Skills:

  • Excellent political judgement
  • Ability to be creative, identify good stories and gain coverage
  • Ability to be proactive, to pitch stories and ideas and to chase coverage and contributors
  • Ability to co-ordinate a wide range of requests for interviews and to work with a wide range of broadcasters
  • Ability to write press releases and other materials as necessary
  • Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to deadlines
  • Ability to work closely with others both in the media team and other departments

Job Title: Digital Media Officer

Location: Edinburgh

Key Purpose: The Digital Officer will be responsible for the day to day output of the Scottish Conservative’s social media accounts.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Day to day output across social and digital media
  • Creating original and engaging content, including graphics, for the Party’s online output
  • Delivering the Scottish Conservative communications strategy through social and digital media
  • Organising relevant content for Scottish Conservative elected representatives for their own accounts as required
  • Writing press releases and other copy including articles and briefs as required
  • Liaising closely with colleagues on digital output to ensure consistent messaging
  • Working with the wider media team to build strong digital content as part of the overall communications strategy
  • Undertake further media office duties as required, including being part of the weekend rota

Person Specification
