Position: Assistant to Organising Secretary

Salary: £8,000 – £10,000 depending on experience

The Edinburgh Conservative and Unionist Association is recruiting for the part-time position of Assistant to its Organising Secretary.

Reporting to the Chairman of the Association, the Assistant will be primarily responsible for maintaining membership records and office administration, with the capacity to expand these duties to include assisting in the preparation, planning and operation of political campaigning as required.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, well organised, computer-literate applicant, who is able to work efficiently in a voluntary environment. Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas: campaigning, familiarity with online membership processing software, office disciplines, working in an office environment, and excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.

The successful applicant will work with our current Organising Secretary. The role will be based in one of our two offices in Edinburgh with working hours part-time, initially for 20 hours per week with the possibility of developing the post into a full-time position. It is important that applicants are able to have a flexible approach to

their work and hours, to ensure that the varied needs of the Association can be met.

Principal aspects of the role will include:

• Providing secretarial support for the Association

• Developing relations with members of the association through regular telephone & email contact

• Ensuring membership records are kept up to date

• Assisting with the organisation of fundraising events and keeping records of funds

• Supporting the Organising Secretary, and helping to deliver campaigning support

• Writing association literature, such as a regular members’ bulletin

• Basic office administration
