Mitchell: Question will tell us more about Sex Offenders Register situation

Commenting after the arrest of Peter Tobin in London on Saturday 30th September, Margaret Mitchell MSP, Scottish Conservative Justice spokesman, said:


“This is the latest high-profile case where people on the Sex Offenders Register have not reported to the police and their whereabouts are subsequently unknown at any given time.


“The potential consequences of these offenders being at large or residing in communities without a proper monitoring programme in place are grave – to this end I have tabled a question which aims to establish how widespread the problem is throughout Scotland.”

To ask the Scottish Executive how many people since 1999 who are on the sex offenders register or under any other order to report their whereabouts to police on a regular basis i) have failed to do so and ii) are still unaccounted for
