Goldie: Release the talents of disabled people

19/10/2006

Commenting after visiting Capability Scotland earlier this week, Scottish Conservative Leader Annabel Goldie MSP said:

“Scotland needs to release the talents of its disabled people.  I am concerned that we are not making the most of this talent at present, and that is why I have submitted these questions to the Executive.

“We have a social and economic responsibility to ensure that disabled people who are keen and able to work have the full opportunity to do so.  They represent a much needed and a much valued resource.

“If the answers from the Scottish Executive show that it is providing these opportunities then I will be the first to congratulate them.  But if not, I will want to know why.”

Notes to Editors
Below are the questions Annabel has submitted

To ask the Scottish Executive what percentage of Scottish Executive and Scottish Executive funded jobs are occupied by people with a disability or disabilities.
To ask the Scottish Executive what percentage of applications for Scottish Executive and Scottish Executive funded jobs were submitted by people with a disability or disabilities.
To ask the Scottish Executive what percentage of the total workforce have a disability or disabilities, broken down by public and private sector.
