Craiglockhart Fountainbridge

Cllr Gordon Buchan

Gordon Buchan (31) has been successfully elected as the Scottish Conservative coucillor the new Craiglockhart & Fountainbridge ward in 2007's City Council elections.

Gordon is well known in the area, having cut Labour’s notional majority during the 2005 General Election, when he contested the Edinburgh South West constituency. During the election campaign, he established a reputation for hard work and promoting local issues across Craiglockhart, Shandon, Moat and Fountainbridge. He is a former Vice Chairman of the Scottish Conservative Party, having been the youngest person to have ever held the position, and has been involved in numerous election campaigns. He is also currently Chairman of the Edinburgh South West constituency association.

He has already campaigned on a number of important local issues with Councillor George Hunter OBE and David McLetchie MSP. These have included the redevelopment of garage sites into residential properties, the loss of park land at Grove Street, setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Greenbank Village and working with local residents at Meggetland.

Prior to the election Gordon said, “I am greatly looking forward to the elections to the City Council next year. With new wards and changes to the election system, it will certainly be an exciting time for the city, as we will almost certainly see the end of Labour’s domination of the City Chambers. ”

He lives in the ward with his wife Ulrike, and works for an international firm of consulting engineers, specialising in transport planning. Gordon attended Napier University and has worked in the Capital since 1996. Outside politics, Gordon enjoys reading, going to the cinema and model engineering.
