
COUNCIL ADMINISTRATION SIGNS UP FOR FAIRTRADE
After Dumfries & Galloway Council had agreed to prioritise working towards securing fairtrade status, Leader of the Council Ivor Hyslop said:
"I'm delighted that the council spoke with one voice on this important issue, the administration now wants to see real progress region-wide as well as supporting individual community campaigns."
Comservative Councillor John Dougan, who has been leading the campaign in Stranraer, expressed his delight at the motion passed by Council. He said:
"Fair trade is an issue that should concern us all, and with purposeful steps being taken locally and nationally I'm sure meaningful results can now be achieved. Dumfries & Galloway Council has taken a step in the right direction - now we need to build local momentum."
