Dumfries and Galloway Council is responsible for the provision of most local services in our region. Conservatives have made steady progress in building our presence on the Council – building from only two councillors in 1996 to 18 today, after making huge gains in the election of 2007.
The former Council was run by Labour, and many locals are disappointed by its failure to deliver on the priorities of communities across our region. With council tax having risen by over 60% since the council was created in 1996, local services should not be deteriorating. With the Conservatives now the largest group, work will begin in putting together a council that puts the priorities of local people first.
Here are our 24 candidates at the launch of our campaign outside the Council Buildings in English Street, Dumfries. Only the most optimistic of obeservers would have predicted that 18 would be elected. We're determined to sieze the opportunity to deliver efficient and succesful local government in Dumfries & Galloway.
