On 3rd May 2007, Alex Fergusson MSP was successful in winning the Scottish Parliament constituency of Galloway & Upper Nithsdale with a majority of 3,333 over the SNP candidate.
Later that month, he was elected by fellow MSPs as the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, in doing so he has suspended his Party alegiance but continues to work hard for local people across his constituency.
