Biography – Ron McKail, council candidate for Westhill & District
Ron McKail, Chairman of the Westhill and District Scottish Conservatives, has been selected as the Conservative candidate for the 2007 local council elections for Ward 13 (Westhill and District).
Along with his wife Ann he has been resident of Westhill since 1997. Ron has had a professional career in Education and in Social Services during which time he obtained professional qualifications in teaching and social work and graduated from Birmingham and Aberdeen Universities with master degrees in social sciences and education respectively.
Now retired from full time employment he devotes part of his time to various committees and organisations. He has in recent years involved himself in community based activities geared towards making Westhill a better and safer place to live. Thus with a developing track record making him a very suitable candidate for election as a ward councillor at the 2007 local elections.
He has been able to make this contribution due to his membership and participation in a variety of ways which include:
-
Chairman of the Garioch and North Marr Community Safety Group.
-
Chairman of the Westhill and District Residents Association
-
Aberdeenshire Council Community Safety Partnership.
-
Founder Member of the Westhill and Kingswells First Responder Scheme.
-
Children’s Panel Advisory Committee in Aberdeen and prior to that Aberdeenshire.
-
Vice Chairman of the Grampian Neighbourhood Watch Association.
His involvement substantiates his `get up and go attitude` whilst acquiring very valuable experiences into the political scene in Aberdeenshire. His contribution within these various organisations is proof that not only is he committed to working for the benefit of Westhill and district residents but he is also gaining an insight and developing awareness as to the skills and the knowledge base required to be a competent and successful councillor.
Ron recognises the progress Aberdeenshire Council is making in Westhill in developing his community, however, he is also aware of the shortfalls in the service and in the way the Authority`s finances are periodically being wasted. He says “I know there are a large number of people in Westhill who share my view that many of the policies this Administration are implementing will in the short and long term be detrimental for our community.
Ron wants to be elected as a councillor to make things better by improving and enhancing the quality of life of our residents from young children to the elderly. He also sees a vital role for Conservative councillors to exert a stronger influence in future Aberdeenshire Council policies and play a part in reducing the wasteful spending of `our money` which constituents in this ward either experience directly or read about in the local media with monotonous and frustrating regularity.
According to Ron “if we always do as we’ve always done we’ll always get what we’ve always got. Voting in the Lib - Dems to form the Administration for a further four years is not the best way forward for Westhill and District and one which will result in no changes to the way we are currently governed. May 2007 is the time for political change and a chance to set in motion policies which the Westhill and district community needs”.
2007 has to be the year of change in the political administration of Aberdeenshire Council.
