Scotrail workers are planning a 24 hour strike on Christmas Eve after a worker was sacked for behaving aggressively towards a passenger he said had the wrong ticket.
The Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) will stage two days of industrial action, the other on December 22, meaning thousands of festive passengers will be hit.
The Scottish Conservatives have criticised the move.
Scottish Conservative transport spokesman Alex Johnstone MSP said:
“This is an extremely irresponsible time of the year to launch strike action.
“Families are trying to meet to spend time together, with many others coming home for a rare visit.
“Instead of attempting to spoil that, the union instead should be getting round the table to find a solution.
“That solution is certainly not strike action at this time of year.”
