An agreement has been reached today which represents a major step towards ending the current row over milk prices.
A voluntary code of best practice on milk contracts was secured between NFU Scotland, the NFU and Dairy UK.
Scottish Conservative rural affairs spokesman Alex Fergusson MSP said:
“This is a major step towards a sustainable settlement for our primary milk producers, giving them the certainty they need to make continuing investments in the future of their industry.
“It has proved what we have always said – that if dairy producers work together they can achieve that sustainable end.
“It is when they are divided that others take advantage of the situation, as we have witnessed all too recently.
“The key to the success of this initiative is that the processors have also bought into it, and that bodes well for the future.”
