Congratulating Katherine Grainger on winning her first ever Olympic gold medal after her triumph with Anna Watkins in the women’s double sculls, Scottish Conservative leader and Glasgow MSP Ruth Davidson said:
“Having won silver at the last three Olympics no one deserves this gold medal more than Katherine Grainger.
“She and Anna showed sheer guts to lead from the front and the result was never in doubt as they finished the race in style.
“Katherine’s immense determination over the past 20 years to reach the top of her sport will hopefully inspire a whole new generation to go for gold in the water.
“Hopefully her supreme efforts will see another gold rush to make it a ‘Fab Friday’ for Team GB.”
