No surprise Wales would welcome Trident

14 Aug 2012

Welsh ministers have discussed the economic benefits of becoming a home for Trident should Scotland separate from the rest of the UK, it was reported this morning.

The Welsh cabinet discussed the possibility at a meeting in June, on the back of repeated pledges by the SNP to make Scotland nuclear-free.

Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson MSP said:

“I can fully understand why politicians in Wales are keen to see the economic benefits we experience thanks to Faslane.

“For all the SNP grandstanding on Trident, it seems to forget that Faslane is Scotland’s biggest single-site employer with thousands of jobs supporting communities across the west coast.

“Thankfully all the research shows the majority of Scots recognise the benefits of the UK and will vote to remain as part of the most successful social and economic union in the world.”
